AXESS Networks and ALTÁN Redes join forces to provide 4G LTE coverage to 92% of the Mexican territory.

• AXESS Networks becomes the main satellite provider of ALTÁN Redes, the company responsible for designing, deploying, operating and marketing the Shared Network.

• This alliance will promote the competitiveness of virtual mobile network operators, cable operators and small operators in the communities.

Mexico, October 27, 2020. AXESS Networks joins the most transformative network  project for telecommunications in Mexico:  the Shared  Network  of  ALTÁN Redes,  through  the assignment of 80 satellite sites during the first phase and, reaffirming trust, with 1,000 new sites for the phase 2. The majority participation of AXESS on the allocations of the satellite sites was given  thanks to the  rapid  deployment  and adequate operation  of  the  first implementations, especially during the contingency period caused by the global pandemic.

Despite the logistics and operational restrictions caused by COVID-19 in several of the most remote and digitally excluded areas, AXESS activated the first satellite links in record time, responding to all the parameters established by ALTÁN Redes and complying with the demanding schedule required by the Shared Network.

Fernando Bellido, ALTÁN Redes executive director of deployment, stated: ”After a successful implementation of the first phase with AXESS, under strict compliance with the schedules, we decided to assign 60% of the satellite sites for the second phase. We are very satisfied to rely on companies that add value to our goal of connecting Mexico at competitive prices”.

With the satellite deployment already in place, ALTÁN Redes currently provides connectivity through 4.5G LTE mobile voice and data service to 57% of the Mexican population and, through an aggressive milestone fulfillment plan, expects to have covered at least the 70% of the national territory by January 2022 and reach 92% in January 2024, facilitating access to more than 100 million people -especially in rural areas that are still neglected-.

With the cellular backhaul connectivity solution implemented, ALTÁN Redes and AXESS estimate, not only to increase connectivity throughout the national territory, but also to promote the competitiveness of virtual mobile network operators, cable operators and small community operators by improving the pricing scheme. The positive impact that this solution generates for Mexicans, especially in times of contingency like the one we are currently experiencing, reaffirms today that connectivity is not a desirable service, but a basic need. Having this internet coverage will assist in the scenarios that are now a reality, such as facilitating new forms of employment with telework, access to remote education (teleeducation) and new channels to serve the health care sector, through telemedicine.

”We are very satisfied to be the technological partner of ALTÁN Redes for the most important connectivity project in the region. This new assignment confirms the trust they have in us as the main supplier and the ability of our company to support developments of this magnitude in Latin America” commented Miguel E. Rodríguez, president of AXESS Américas, ratifying the company’s commitment to continue accompanying ALTÁN Redes in its deployment nationwide.

This implementation with ALTÁN Redes solidifies the presence of AXESS in the region as the leader in the implementation of cellular backhaul solutions. The Shared Network of ALTÁN Redes joins other projects in Latin America with capacities greater than 3 Gbps, bringing connectivity to remote locations such as Iquitos in Peru, Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, Leticia, San Andrés Islands and other remote locations in Colombia.
