How a self-pointing antenna works
4 July, 2024Nearly 600 patients in the Lagos and Ogun regions have benefited from this pilot project, which offers specialized healthcare in remote locations without the need for extensive travel.
Cologne/Bonn, 20/01/2025 – AXESS Networks, the world’s leading provider of communications solutions, a leading provider of the Hispasat Group, together with two partner companies –Comitas e-Health and Wazima Health- has made a pioneering contribution to healthcare in Nigeria. Using satellite technology, telemedicine points have been deployed in the towns of Arepo (Ogun State) and Ojodu Berger (Lagos State), providing healthcare to nearly 600 patients.
Thanks to the telemedicine solution deployed by these three companies, a primary care point located in a remote or unattended area with a terminal equipped with different diagnostic devices -skin scribing or ultrasound, among others- establishes a videoconference via satellite so that specialist doctors located in a general hospital can examine their patients remotely.
The distribution of health centers and hospitals in Nigeria is very uneven. According to The Lancet, some of its states have fewer than 20 health centers per 100,000 inhabitants. This healthcare gap, which is similar in other countries in the region, can be reduced quickly and efficiently thanks to this satellite telemedicine solution. The universal coverage provided by satellite technology, combined with Comitas’ small terminal, allows for a rapid and widespread deployment in the areas with the highest demand for this type of solution.
For Ralf Schmitz, Head of Sales at AXESS Networks EMEA, “Our mission is to improve healthcare concepts using the latest technology and satellite connectivity. The technology we provide is the backbone of this telemedicine solution, enabling remote connections and secure data exchange between doctors and patients.”
