MINTIC, AXESS Networks and Hispasat deliver tele-education solutions with satellite internet to strengthen schools in Riosucio and Puerto Colombia

Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), September 6, 2023. Within the framework of Andicom 2023, the International ICT Congress, and the most important space for conversation on Digital Transformation in Colombia and Latin America, AXESS Networks and Hispasat delivered to the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications of Colombia, MinTIC, two complete tele-education solutions supported with satellite technology for two schools in Riosucio (Cauca) and Puerto Colombia (Guainia).

The tele-education solution delivered consists of 7 main components necessary for a correct adoption and integration into the digital transformation.

The first is connectivity through Hispasat’s state-of-the-art satellites, which provide broadband internet and host the tele-education system server. The second component, Digital Classrooms, which consist of laptops and tablets with their respective charging cabinet and educational software previously installed on these devices, as well as digital boards, is enabled in rural schools.

The third component, which is an integral part of this solution, consists of maintaining an accompaniment to the digital transformation of the community, through ICT training for teachers, socialization with students, parents, and the nearby community. In this way, the appropriation of technology is guaranteed in an adequate, effective, and continuous manner over time.

Likewise, the fourth component is a free community WiFi zone for people outside the school, which provides educational content for everyone and facilitates access to government applications online.

The fifth component guarantees the power supply of the solution through the implementation of solar panels. The sixth component consists of a control panel that, by means of a web application, allows parameterization and autonomous administration of the network, housing relevant information on the browsing behavior of users at each installed point, thus making it possible to monitor the process of technological appropriation and guide new actions that facilitate and complete the integration of users in this academic solution.

As the last component of this donation, the entire deployment for the installation, operation, and support of the technology is provided, with the support of a permanent help desk and warranty and maintenance of all components.

This donation has no cost for schools or for MINTIC and promotes the closing of the digital divide with a rapidly deployable solution that can be scaled nationally, to integrate all children in the most remote areas of Colombia.
