Security and satellite Internet for mass events

Satellite technologies offer effective monitoring in mass events.

Various factors or eventualities can contribute to something going wrong in a massive event: security incidents, moods and emotions of the audience, infiltration of unauthorized articles, criminal characteristics of the area around the event, volunteers who do not attend or see each other exceeded by their responsibilities, inadequacy of the design or architecture of the headquarters for the flow of public … the list is extensive. Be it a sporting, religious, political or artistic event (concerts, festivals, exhibitions or other shows), the possible dangers are basically the same.

And in regards the two most important issues to carry out a successful mass event, there are two, namely: guarantee the safety of all participants (workers, protagonists or exhibitors, delegates and their staff, public) and deal with emergencies during the course of the scheduled activities. There are many tips and checklists that can help reduce risks and improve the ability to respond to possible problematic situations, however, unforeseen events are never lacking. So, how to strengthen the constitution of an effective monitoring and response unit?

“It’s not just that you have a moral duty to take care of your clients and staff, but also the consequences of failing to do so can be serious,” Jill McCracken.

In 2007, the US Department of Justice published a series of guidelines to plan and manage safety in important special events (and therefore, massive), amongst its recommendations included “video cameras with live broadcasts placed in buildings, observations of officers from roofs, helicopters and other measures”, in addition to “having access to satellite phone, in case all local systems, including wireless ones, are saturated”. Now, real-time communication and surveillance remain essential, but satellite technology has much more to offer.

With regards to surveillance, the best perspective is that it covers the largest possible area and allows to be prepared on time. In this sense, the aerial view generates an overview, complements and improves terrestrial surveillance deployments, while contributing to the early detection of potential threats, thus helping to increase emergency response capacity and guaranteeing the safety of all participants. This type of technology saves costly helicopter surveillance operations and reduces the number of personnel required to make observations. Searching for satellite Internet providers with success stories is key. Such is the case of our company, AXESS, with the use of hot air balloons we monitor strategic points and continuously monitor events framed in the realization of mass events. Equipped with a high-definition camera and satellite connectivity, our monitoring units have no geographical restrictions, have data availability at all times and make high-quality transmissions available to security agencies in real-time. In sum, Internet and satellite security, when combined with contingency strategies and plans for traditional emergencies, as well as awareness of prevention by the attendees, will result in a successful mass event.
