Conectando Perú por mar y tierra Por Mauricio Segovia, CEO de Axesat

Our president Mauricio Segovia explains us how we are giving full coverage in Peru to two key sectors: fishing and telecommunications. See here some of our success stories.

At AXESS, we are focused on creating opportunities for our partners and customers in Peru and throughout Latin America. We do this by empowering them to connect people using new media across geographic locations, where it was simply not possible to carry connectivity in the past.

As CEO, I am focused on guaranteeing that we are always at the forefront of connectivity innovation, providing solutions that help customers grow, expand into new markets and obtain a competitive advantage. Above all, I want these solutions to improve the quality of life and work for people throughout Peru, regardless of their location. And that is what we are achieving today through our work with SES Networks.

By entering the SES Networks Partner Program, we are sharing knowledge that can be transformed into solid, reliable and economical solutions for our clients. Our teams have collaborated closely in a way that allows us to have technical and commercial support, also accompanying us in the process of developing new opportunities.

In Peru there are many remote and hard-to-reach communities, which can make it difficult for service providers to provide broadband connectivity in these places – particularly in an economical way and to deliver the high performance that the digital era demands. This also applies to the maritime industry, where a solid connectivity at deep sea has traditionally been a great challenge.

Our work with SES Networks and its exclusive combination of geostationary satellite (GEO) and O3b intermediate circular orbit (Medium Earth Orbit, MEO) enabled solutions are changing this reality. Applications that require high processing capacity will meet their needs served by THE services managed with O3b fiber-type performance, while applications with less intensive data traffic can be served through the GEO fleet. This multiband and multiorbital offer has improved the experiences of our clients in areas that were previously impossible to reach.

This transformation has been even more evident Entel Peru, an AXESS client which has committed to providing mobile coverage for communities throughout Peru. With the constellation O3b MEO, Entel Peru has managed to carry 4G mobile connectivity reaching 1Gbps in Iquitos, an isolated city that can be reached only by air – and a market previously unexplored by other operators. A year later, Entel Peru is providing unlimited 4G data plans that doubled its subscriber base, raised the user experience and gave those who work and live in Iquitos access to the same communications and opportunities comparable to those that exist in the main cities of Peru.

Our commercial fishing client, Hayduk, is another example of the power of next-generation satellite connectivity. Powered by SES Networks GEO solutions, Hayduk is now the first fishery in Peru with a fully connected fleet of vessels. This means that crews can communicate reliably between vessels – as well as with the data processing center. The connected IoT devices are also implemented on ships, allowing Hayduk to gather and analyze critical information, such as the quality of refrigerated raw materials, in real-time. These connected fleets are revolutionizing the commercial fishing industry, allowing companies like Hayduk to improve the wellness and occupational safety of the crew, increase their agility amid changes in environmental conditions, reduce costs and make better decisions in less time, stimulating opportunities and previously possible applications only on land.

Although these are just a few examples, they represent the power of transformation and the opportunity born of the collaboration between AXESS and SES Networks – helping us to provide incomparable connectivity with fiber-like performance to new markets and regions that cannot be reached with traditional ground methods. The GEO and O3b MEO solutions give us the flexibility to economically solve a wide variety of customer use cases and easily escalate capacity accordingly to the demands of the end user that day after day continue to increase.
